以前高中時期學英語的時候可能更強調應試，到了大學階段應該注重聽說讀寫譯綜合發展和英語的實際運用。
1.聽說。聽是輸入，說是輸出，所以聽力是口語的前提。你可以常上英語學習網站，比如普特、滬江英語上面有很多聽力材料，有不同的難度梯度。如果你本身英語還不錯的話，可以從上面多找一些VOA、BBC和CNN的新聞和報道，然后做精聽練習。先聽一兩遍，搞明白main idea，然后再以句子意群為單位，精確地repeat其中的每句話。這樣的訓練可以很實在的提高你的英語聽力實力。經過一段時間的密集訓練，你就會發現聽英語的時候不再是朦朦朧朧的，而是很清楚的知道老外在講什么。
另外還有一種提高聽力的途徑就是看美劇英劇，這個方法既能娛樂放松，同時又鍛煉了耳朵的敏感度，學習到新鮮實用的口語表達。像經典的情景喜劇《老友記》《老爸老媽浪漫史》《生活大爆炸》等等，如果對喜劇感覺一般般的話，可以選擇劇情類的，你可以去伊甸園和美劇迷這樣的網站論壇上多去看看別人的和分享。
閱讀和寫作。其實中國大部分學生的英文寫作能力是對付考試的，所以這種文章都有套路，詞匯運用也有限。閱讀是積累詞匯，擴大知識面和信息量的最佳途徑。大學生多看看外刊，從這些報紙雜志的文章里，你能涉獵到西方社會的文化、經濟、政治各個層面，而且熟悉西方人的邏輯和思辨。這些外刊都有其官方網站，可以定期上去瀏覽，并保存一些視角新穎、文風犀利的文章，做做翻譯練習。
