隨著北京申辦冬奧會的升溫，各項冬季運動在北京、張家口等地的普及與推廣力度也越來越強，喜歡冬季運動的人越來越多。
去年年底，國家體育場鳥巢舉辦完高水平“沸雪”賽事后，又舉辦了國際雪聯自由式滑雪空中技巧世界杯賽;吸引了近百支隊伍參加的北京青少年冰球聯賽進行得如火如荼。在冬奧會規劃舉辦大部分雪上項目的崇禮，2014年雪季剛一拉開序幕，就吸引了數百名日本和韓國滑雪隊的專業運動員前來訓練，這些隊員近年來年年都要到這兒開始他們整個賽季前的訓練。據崇禮縣縣長白銀海介紹，截至2015年1月3日，全縣滑雪總人數39.5萬人次、收入2.77億元，同比增長28.6%、29.1%;全縣游客接待總人數為60.76萬人次、收入4.26億元，同比增長27.3%、28.1%。
王安順認為，申辦和籌辦冬奧會，將加快改善北京、張家口的交通、市政等基礎設施條件，提高醫療、教育等基本公共服務水平，促進體育文化、旅游休閑等低碳產業發展，優化生態環境。特別是能夠加速區域大氣污染治理進程、帶動經濟落后地區勞動力就業，為老百姓帶來更多的、實實在在的好處。
根據規劃，連接北京和張家口的高速鐵路將于2019年前后完工。完工后，北京至張家口的交通時間將縮短到50分鐘。冬奧會的申辦加快推動張家口步入首都一小時經濟圈的發展。
廣告按照《北京市2013-2017清潔空氣行動計劃》，2014年北京全市5400蒸噸燃煤鍋爐“煤改氣”任務已提前超額完成，從2014年冬季采暖季起，將少排放二氧化硫4204噸。按照第一階段目標，經過5年努力，北京市的細顆粒物年均濃度要比2012年下降25%以上。
中國科學院大氣物理所博士后李汀表示，可以借助申辦和舉辦冬奧會的東風，加快京津冀和周邊地區產業調整步伐，多措并舉治理霧霾，“冬奧藍”應該不是奢求，更可以變成一種常態。
北京攜手張家口申辦冬奧會主要有四大優勢：
第一，中國政治穩定，經濟繁榮，社會和諧，這是舉辦冬奧會最重要的基礎。王安順說，從確定主辦城市到舉辦冬奧會，要經過數年，需要一個穩定和諧的社會環境，北京攜手張家口申辦冬奧會得到了中國國家領導人和各級政府強有力的支持。
第二，13億中國人民對申冬奧非常支持。國際奧委會和北京冬奧申委的調查均顯示，全國超過90%的民眾支持北京申冬奧。
第三，可充分利用奧運遺產，降低辦賽成本。根據申辦規劃，北京2022年冬奧會將在北京、延慶和張家口三個賽區舉行，所有冰上項目比賽將落戶北京賽區，規劃的12個競賽和非競賽場館中，有11個是北京2008年奧運會場館。張家口和延慶賽區將舉辦全部雪上項目，山形地貌、溫度濕度、海拔高度等自然條件均符合比賽要求；所有冬奧會規劃場地都通過了國際冬季體育單項組織和國際殘奧委會的認證。
第四，擁有承辦大型國際賽的能力、經驗和人才。王安順說，中國已舉辦過北京奧運會、南京青奧會、哈爾濱大冬會、哈爾濱和長春兩屆亞冬會，也承辦過很多頂級的國際單項冬季體育賽事，今年8月還將在北京舉行世界田徑錦標賽。王安順說，未來幾年北京和張家口還將引入更多世界頂級冰雪賽事，進一步提升舉辦冬季體育賽會的能力。申冬奧對北京有什么意義？王安順認為，冬奧會將有力地促進在長城腳下建立一個重要的全球冬季運動中心，將為北京等地留下大量寶貴的奧運遺產：即推動中國的冬季體育產業和市場發展；廣泛推廣校園奧林匹克教育行動計劃，為數以百萬計青少年提供參與冬季運動的機會；形成奧林匹克運動與區域可持續發展良性互動的新模式；通過京津冀文化旅游帶的發展為體育、文化、旅游休閑等產業創造約數十萬個就業機會。王安順介紹，北京2022年冬奧會確定了“以運動員為中心、可持續發展、節儉辦賽”三大理念，并根據國際奧委會舉辦冬奧會的技術要求，充分利用奧運遺產和積累的舉辦國際大型賽事經驗，廣泛聽取國際奧委會、國內外有關專家和運動員的意見，制定了切實可行的規劃。
