Though [Although] it was raining,we went there.

Though [Although] it was barely four o’clock, the lights were already on.

Though [Although] we are poor, we are still happy.

It’s hard work; I enjoy it though.

He is looking fit, though.

You can count on him, though.

                  在 as though(好像,仿佛),even though(即使,縱然)等固定短語中不能用 although:

She closed her eyes as though she were tired.

We felt as though we had witnessed the whole thing.

He is an honest man, I must say, even though I have opposed him.

She was always afraid of men, even though she had lots of boyfriends.

Poor though I am, I can afford it.

Child though he was, he did quite well.

                  but,?however,?still,?nevertheless,?yet

                  but, however, still, nevertheless, yet這是幾個詞義很近的同義詞,都表示轉折或讓步。

Nearly everybody enters for‘ The Nicest Garden Competition ’each year, but Joe wins every time.

Sally was amused, but I was very embarrassed.

You will be lucky if he lets you go without a ticket. However, this does not always happen.

The most surprising thing about it, however, is that it can land anywhere…

                  still 還,還是

It is true that winter is over; still, it is almost as cold.

He treated you badly; still, he is your brother and you ought to help him.

There was no news; nevertheless, she went on hoping.

To be sure, it is no longer winter; nevertheless, it is quite cold.

He worked hard, yet, he failed.

It is well on in May, yet, it is almost as cold as midwinter.

                  as?if/as?though的用法

Holding his head high, he walked past the pole and the soldiers as if they didn’t exist.

Why is she looking at me as though she knew me?

He behaves as if he owned the house.

He treats me as if /as though I were a stranger.

He speaks as if he were an Englishman.

It’s not as though he was /were poor.

He looked at me as if I were mad.

He stood there looking at the train and laughing, as if to miss a

train was the best joke in the world.

Mr. Coleman always talked as if he knew everything.

They talked as if they had been friends for years.

They had been friends for years.)

Now it is as though she had known Millie for years.

She felt as though she could hardly endure such a life.

It was as if he had lost his last friend.

“I remember,” she tells her children now, “how wild his white hair

looked——as if it had been electrified.”(高二冊,第91頁)

You look as if you’d seen a ghost.

He talks about Rome as though he had been there himself.

He heard a noise, as if someone was breathing.(高一冊,第211頁)

He ran as if ghosts were chasing him.

I felt as if the ground were slipping beneath my feet.

It looked as if it was going to snow.

He opened his lips as if he would say something to you.

English Colloquial

He walks as if he is drunk.

He walks as if he were drunk.

It looks as if it is going to rain.

It looks as if were going to rain.

There’s Hob, talking to the ticket-collector. It looks as if he

                  hasn’t got a platform ticket.

You look as if you’ve been running.

You look as if you know each other.

He looks as if he’s tired.

It looks/seems as if you’re right.

You have acted as if you like me.

It smells as if it is fresh.

With the development of these new tools, it is as if man has

suddenly become a millionaire of the mind.

Teen-agers may talk as if they know it all, but statistics tell a

                  different story.

The “historical present” is sometimes used in narrative when we want

to describe events vividly as if they are happening in our presence.

                  4. 在非正式文體(尤其是美國英語)中,可以用like做連詞代替as if 和as though。例如:

It looks like it’s going to rain today.

She looks like she’ll win the race.

I love that boy like he was my son.

He looked like he needed someone to talk to, so we lent him an ear.

He sat there smiling like it was his birthday.

She started kissing me like we were on our honeymoon.

                  5. as if和as though從句中的省略

                  1)????? as if +不定式

He opened his lips as if (he were) to make some reply.

The bee checked its forward speed, circled and then drifted slowly

over the mirrorlike surface of the pool as if to admire its own

                  reflection.

Carrie felt as if unable to endure such a life.

He lay still for a long while, as if dead.

                  3)????? as if +介詞短語

He looked about as if (he was) in search of something.

                  4)????? as if +現在分詞

From time to time Jason turned round as though (he was) searching

                  for someone.

John paused as if expecting Mary to speak.

Nevertheless, the bee kept exercising the wings slowly up and down,

                  as though assessing the damage.

                  5)????? as if +名詞

He acts as if (he was) a fool.

                  6)????? as if +副詞

He made that remark as if absently.

如1993年第10期《英語自學》中《淺談由as if (as

                  though)和wish引出的虛擬語氣就明確指出:“在由as if (as

實際上,as if和 as

He looks as if he were ill.

He looked as if he were ill.

He looks as if he had been ill.

He looked as if he had been ill.

A: We’ve been back at work now for three days.

B: I feel as if I had been back for three months.

I have been back for three months.)

                  6. as if和as though的功能

They talked as if they had been friends for years.

He looked as if he had just stepped out of my book of fairy

tales and had passed me like a spirit.

                  As if I cared!

As if anyone would believe that story!

He warned me against associating with people of doubtful character.

As if I ever should!

                  as if, as though的用法:

It looks as if they have succeeded in the experiment.

The young man with long hair looks as if he were a girl.

The injured man acted as if nothing had happened to him.

The lady felt as if she lost something.

He was singing as though / if he hadn"t had / didn"t have a care in the world.

                  * The clown looks as if he were ill.

                  * The clown looked as if he had been ill.

It looks / seems as if …

                  1. It looks as if it hasn"t been washed following the instructions.

                  2. It seemed as if the bag had been pressed by something heavy.

                  3. It seemed as if the suit was made to his own measure.

                  1. He acts ( acted ) as if ( though ) he were an expert.

                  2. They talked ( are talking ) as if ( though ) they had been friends for years.

                  3. The woman loves the children as if she were their mother.

                  but, however, while, although和though用法小結

                  1. We have made some achievements, but we should be modest.

                  2. He promised to help me. However, he is busy and hasn’t come.

                  3. She felt ill. She went to work, however, and tried to concentrate.

                  4. He said that it was so; he was mistaken, however.

                  10. She promised to phone. I heard nothing, though.

                  2. although / though引導從句時,主句不可再使用but, however等,但可出現副詞still等(句9)。

                  淺談as if/as though的用法

Why is she looking at me as though she knew me?

He behaves as if he owned the house.

He treats me as if /as though I were a stranger.

He speaks as if he were an Englishman.

It’s not as though he was /were poor.

He looked at me as if I were mad.

He stood there looking at the train and laughing, as if to miss a

train was the best joke in the world.

Mr. Coleman always talked as if he knew everything.

They talked as if they had been friends for years.

Now it is as though she had known Millie for years.

She felt as though she could hardly endure such a life.

It was as if he had lost his last friend.

“I remember,” she tells her children now, “how wild his white hair

looked——as if it had been electrified.”

You look as if you’d seen a ghost.

He talks about Rome as though he had been there himself.

He heard a noise, as if someone was breathing.

He ran as if ghosts were chasing him.

I felt as if the ground were slipping beneath my feet.

It looked as if it was going to snow.

He opened his lips as if he would say something to you.

                  1) as if +不定式

He opened his lips as if (he were) to make some reply.

The bee checked its forward speed, circled and then drifted slowly

over the mirrorlike surface of the pool as if to admire its own

                  reflection.

Carrie felt as if unable to endure such a life.

He lay still for a long while, as if dead.

                  3) as if +介詞短語

He looked about as if (he was) in search of something.

                  4) as if +現在分詞

From time to time Jason turned round as though (he was) searching

                  for someone.

John paused as if expecting Mary to speak.

Nevertheless, the bee kept exercising the wings slowly up and down,

                  as though assessing the damage.

                  5) as if +名詞

He acts as if (he was) a fool.

                  6) as if +副詞

                    1. although, though, even though, even if都表示“雖然, 即使, 盡管”之意, though 和although 語氣較弱(其中的though 比although 通俗, 不如although 正式), even if和even though 帶有強調意味而顯得語氣更強。 Although they are poor, they are happy. // Although it was so cold, he went out without an overcoat. // Though they may not succeed, they will still try. // The article is very important though it is short. // He is better, though not yet cured. // Even though it was raining, she walked to work. // I’ll visit him this evening even if I can stay only a few minutes.

Great as the author was, he proved a bad model. // Ridiculous as it seems, the tale is true. // Rich as he is, he is not happy. // Child as he is, he can tell black from white.(倒裝時要省去單個名詞前的冠詞)盡管還是個孩子, 他卻能分辨黑白。// Brave (a) man as he is, he trembles at the sight of snakes. // Badly wounded as he was, he remained quite optimistic. // Try as he would, he could not lift the rock.

[考題1] We had to wait half an hour ____ we had already booked a table.

                    A. since B. although C. until D. before

[考題2] ____ most of the earth’s surface is covered by water, fresh water is very rare and precious.

                    A. As B. Once C. If D. Although

3] ____ he has limited technical knowledge, the old worker has a lot of experience. (2006)

                    A. Since B. Unless C. As D. Although

4] Although he is considered a great writer, ____. (1991)

                    A. his works are not widely read

                    B. but his works are not widely read

                    C. however his works are not widely read

                    D. still his works are not widely read

                    [答案] A

Although she has a lot of money, (yet/still) she is not happy.

[考題5] There was never any time for Kate to feel lonely, ____ she was an only child.

                    A. ever since B. now that C. even though D. even as

[考題6] Many of them turned a deaf ear to his advice, ____ they knew it to be valuable.

                    A. as if B. now that C. even though D. so that

                    [答案] C

[解析] “Many of them turned a deaf ear to his advice”和“they knew it to be valuable”意思相反, 四個選項中引導讓步狀語從句的even though最為適合。

[考題7] Allow children the space to voice their opinions, ____ they are different from your own.

                    A.until B. even if C. unless D.as though

[考題8] ____, he talks a lot about his favorite singers after class.

                    C. Be a quiet student as he may D. Quiet as he may be a student

[考題9] ____, I have never seen anyone who’s as capable as John.

                    A. As long as I have traveled B. Now that I have traveled so much

                    C. Much as I have traveled D. As I have traveled so much

                    [答案] C

[解析] 從句“I have traveled”與主句“I have never seen anyone who’s as capable as John”之間具有明顯的讓步關系, 本題應選用as的倒裝形式引導讓步狀語從句。

[考題10] ____, his idea was accepted by all the people at the meeting.

                    A. Strange as might it sound B. As it might sound strange

                    C. As strange it might sound D. Strange as it might sound

                  even though 和 even if的用法與區別

今天給大家介紹一下even though 和 even if的用法與區別。

even though 和 even if 均可用于引導讓步狀語從句,其細微區別是:

They"ll stand by you even if you don"t succeed.

Even if I have to walk all the way I"ll get there.

Even if it rains tomorrow, we won"t change our plan.

For my part, I plan to go to the party even if you decide not to go.

Even if you saw him pick up the money, you can"t be sure he stole it.

Even if he had the money, he wouldn"t buy it.

I would have married her even if she had been penniless.

                  2、even though
He went out even though it was raining.

Even though it"s hard work, I enjoy it.

He"s the best teacher even though he has the least experience.

Even though I didn"t know anybody at the party, I had a nice time.

                  這樣用的even though與though或although的意思比較接近,許多時候可以互換(注意:英語可以說though和even though,但不能說even although)。如:

Even though [Thought, Although] I felt sorry for him, l was secretly pleased that he was having difficulties.

Even though [Thought, Although] we all tried our best, we lost the game.

Even if [Even though] she laughs at him, he likes her.

We thoroughly understand each other, even if [even though] we don"t always agree.

Although、though、even though、even if 的用法和區別

                  Although---conj.

                  Though----conj.

                  adv.

                  prep.但

Though/Although ?he?was?tired,?he?went?on?working.?

                  Though?/Although?it?was?raining,we?went?there.?

                  ?Though/Although?it?was?barely?four?o’clock,?the?lights?were?already?on.? ?

                  Though?/Although we?are?poor,?we?are?still?happy.?

                  even though和even if兩者均可用于引導讓步狀語從句,區別是:

They’ll stand by you even if you don’t succeed.

Even if he had the money, he wouldn’t buy it.

                  2. even though

He went out even though it was raining.

Even though it’s hard work, I enjoy it.

Even though [Thought, Although] I felt sorry for him, l was secretly pleased tha t he was having difficulties.

Even though [Thought, Although] we all tried our best, we lost the game.

                  4. 有時even if與even though可不混用。如:

Even if /Even though she laughs at him, he likes her.

We thoroughly understand each other, even if [even though] we don’t always agree.

短語--- though I say so myself ,even though I say it myself

I"m a good cook, though I say it myself...

Even though I do say it myself we"ve probably got the best little restaurant in town.

Though [Although] it was raining,we went there、 雖然下著雨,但我們還就是去了那兒。

Though [Although] it was barely four o’clock, the lights were already on、 盡管才四點鐘,燈已經亮了。

Though [Although] we are poor, we are still happy、

                  It’s hard work; I enjoy it though、

He is looking fit, though、

You can count on him, though、

                  在 as though(好像,仿佛),even though(即使,縱然)等固定短語中不能用 although:

She closed her eyes as though she were tired、

We felt as though we had witnessed the whole thing、

He is an honest man, I must say, even though I have opposed him、 盡管我反對過她,我還得說她就是一個誠實的人。

She was always afraid of men, even though she had lots of boyfriends、

                  Poor though I am, I can afford it、 我雖窮,但這東西還就是買得起的。

Child though he was, he did quite well、 她雖就是孩子,但干得很好。

                  but,?however,?still,?nevertheless,?yet

                  but, however, still, nevertheless, yet這就是幾個詞義很近的同義詞,都表示轉折或讓步。

Nearly everybody enters for‘ The Nicest Garden Competition ’each year, but Joe wins every time、

Sally was amused, but I was very embarrassed、

You will be lucky if he lets you go without a ticket、 However, this does not always happen、

The most surprising thing about it, however, is that it can land anywhere…

It is true that winter is over; still, it is almost as cold、

He treated you badly; still, he is your brother and you ought to help him、

There was no news; nevertheless, she went on hoping、

To be sure, it is no longer winter; nevertheless, it is quite cold、

He worked hard, yet, he failed、

It is well on in May, yet, it is almost as cold as midwinter、
