The impression of Pride and Prejudice
The book《 Pride and Prejudice》 is written by Jane Austen , a famous English writer .
I still remember the first sentence in this book .It reads :"It is a truth well known to all the world that an unmarried man in possession of a large fortune must in need of a wife ." The undertone is very clear : the foundation of the marriage at that time is not emotion but possession. Love seems to be a perpetual theme all the time .And the main story in the book Pride and Prejudice is not a exception .The writer tells us her views and attitudes about love and marriage in this book.
The novel mainly tells us a love story between Elizabath and Mr. Darcy. It is at a ball that Elizabeth meets Mr. Darcy for the first time and his pride and supercilious behaviors has left Elizabeth a terrible impression . This is the reason why Elizabeth"s prejudice towards him begins .Besides this reason ,there are two other incidents strengthens Elizabeth"s prejudice .The first is that Wickham speaks ill of Mr. Darcy, which makes Elizabeth thinks him is unworthy to making
acquaince of.The second is that Elizabeth regards Darcy is the
person who separates her sister Jane and Mr. Bingley. But with the plots developing ,Darcy has changed himself and become no longer pride ,he also helps Jane and Bingley"s reunion .All these factor change Elizabeth"s attitude towards Darcy. Eventually , Elizabeth and Darcy become a couple and lead a happy life from then on.
After reading this novel, I realize the author—Jane Austen’s attitudes and views towards love and marriage: is unpractical to get married just for property, wealth and social status while would it be without caring about these elements. Marriage should be based on a real love and it is not a game! You can not just enjoy it without prudent considerations. There is a gap which is called pride and prejudice between Elizabeth and Darcy , for they possess different society status and amount of property. But the ending which the author arranges that Elizabeth and Darcy break all the obstacles and become a love couple suggests that true do exist no matter how different the background ,the status is .And I think this book will arouse people’s awareness of the importance of true love in a marriage.

Many people simply regard Pride and Prejudice as a love story, but in my opinion, this book is an illustration of the society at that time. She perfectly reflected the relation between money and marriage at her time and gave the people in her works vivid characters. The characters have their own personalities. Mrs. Bennet is a woman who makes great efforts to marry off her daughters. Mr. Bingley is a friendly young man, but his friend, Mr. Darcy, is a very proud man who seems to always feel superior. Even the five daughters in Bennet family are very different. Jane is simple, innocent and never speaks evil of others. Elizabeth is a clever girl who always has her own opinion. Mary likes reading classic books. (Actually she is a pedant.) Kitty doesn’t have her own opinion but likes to follow her sister, Lydia. Lydia is a girl who follows exotic things, handsome man, and is somehow a little profligate. When I read the book, I can always find the same personalities in the society now. That is why I think this book is indeed the representative of the society in Britain in the 18th century.
The family of gentleman in the countryside is Jane Austen’s favourite topic. But this little topic can reflect big problems. It concludes the stratum situation and economic relationships in Britain in her century. You can find these from the very beginning of this book.
The first sentence in this book is impressive. It reads: “It is a truth well known to all the world that an unmarried man in possession of a large fortune must be in need of a wife”. The undertone is very clear: the foundation of the marriage at that time is not emotion but possession.
People always think that Austen was an expert at telling love stories. In fact, the marriage in her book is not the result of love, but the result of economic needs. After reading this book, I know the truth is that a poor woman must be in need of a husband, a wealthy man.

The power of love
I. Introduction
The book was written by Jane, who was a famous novelist in England. She was born in a village, and her father was local teacher. Jane didn’t go to normal school, but she read a lot with the help of their parents. She began to write at about 20. the village life give her chance to get touch with the middle and small landlords, priests, and their easy and comfortable life ,which made her novel’s life is relax, humorous, and full of dramatic conflict not social contraction. She described the small world around her with her exquisite observation, and won plant of readers. The book described different kind of people and it’s a illustration of social. Just as the subject, it mainly tells us the love story of two kinds of people. One is pride, and the other one is prejudice, but at last they love each other and live a happy life.
II. The Story or A Summary of the Book
When Mr. Bingley rent Netherfield Park Mrs.Bennet who had little intelligence, and only interested in talking, shopping, and finding husbands for her daughters was hysterical for his rich. She deeply hoped this cool man can choose one of her daughter to be a wife, and she suggested Mr.Bennet visit the new neighbors again and again, so that Mr.Bingley can come to move to visit them later. The Bennets lived in the nearest town, Meryton. What makes girls excited is that Mr.Bingley would be attending. On the night of the dance, they met each other. Jane and Mr.Bingley liked each other, and Elizabeth had a dad impression about Mr.Darcy. In her eyes, he was proud and disagreeable. But Mr.Darcy began to stand near her, listening to her and watching her closely, conscious of a wish to known her better. But he also mined her status and her family numbers. They have more chance to meet each other later, but he whenever they speak, they were directed against each other.
At the same time, Mr.Bennet’s cousin, Mr. Collins came to visit them and the man was aimed at choosing a wife, so that he can inherit all the property with peaceful mind. At first he was attracted by Jane, but when he was told that she was likely to be engaged soon, Mr.collins had to changed Jane, and proposed twice but he was refused. Then to everyone’s surprise, Charlotte accepted Collins. Elizabath was angry about this foolish action at first, but she had to bless them. She was asked to visit their new home; there she met Darcy, the man who he hated very much. In her opinion, he separated Mr. Bingley and her Jane and led to Mr.Wickham’s misfortune.
But as a matter of fact, Darcy didn’t realize this by himself, and he can’t help expressing his emotion, which really shocked Elizabeth. But when his words showed his attitude about her status, Elizabath was annoyed. She said all of her hatred to him. Darcy was really hurt by it, and he didn’t know that she misunderstood him so much. What he did was to write a letter to her to explain what he had done. This letter changed Elizabeth’s attitude about him, and later the man do a lot to change her older and younger sisters ‘situation silently, which really moved the prejudiced woman. She began to recollect herself and found that Darcy was not so pound, and she began to fell in love with Darcy too. At last they expressed their deep feeling, and got together for the whole life.
III. Comments or My Views on the Book
I was influenced by this book, whenever I picked it up, I can’t stop. The development of the story touched my heart, as if I were a person in it. When it came to sad things, I felt not happy. When it came to happy time, I laugh to tears. Because of these, I have a better understanding about it. Firstly, we can’t judgment a person by his or her appearance or status. Sometimes first time often cheat our eyes, and time can prove everything, so do not define a person when you don tot understand him or her well, or we may make a mistake. And at the same time, the outside things are not so important, sometimes men can not change it, but they still be b\good enough. If we care more about it, we are too worldly. That’s not good for us to communicate with others, and we may loose the chance to make good friends. So use your heart to treat people around you.
And I also understand that if you really love somebody; do not be hesitate to let the person know it. We have to admit that the others were not you; they may don’t know what you think. Without your expressing, they don’t believe the importance of their in your heat even they kike you. If we always keep it in heart, we may loose the chance to say the true feeling to them. In order not to regret about these, we should be brave to show your feeling to the person you don’t want to miss. The next is that if you really love someone; try your best to insist on it. Keep your own idea about your love, and don’t care what others said. Everyone just has a life, and the true love feeling is not so easy for you, and not every person can give you the special feeling. If you can not catch the chance, it can’t come again even you wait for it for a long time. Love has great power, and it can defeat everything that disturbs you. Your instance may move the person who you love and the person who want to stop you. At that time you can understand the true manning of love: No matter what happen, I will always be here waiting for you. In a word, to live a happy life, we should have our own opinion, own courage, and own persistence. Only in this way can we live the happy life that you pursuit all your life.

Pride and Prejudice , a novel a pleasure to behold, a beautiful and moving story.
The article describes a number of daughters Bo Nate story. Ji-an eldest daughter, gentle kind-hearted, beautiful Keren, Bentley and rich kids at first sight, but at the crucial moment has brought a twist. Second daughter, Elizabeth, Qingli intelligent, ambitious, assertive, consistent with the property of the nobility million youth met Darcy. Can be as arrogant Darcy eccentric, Elizabeth for his prejudice are serious, they love but refuse to recognize the obvious, but also continue to hurt each other with words, but fortunately dispelled the last mistake, married lovers.
Reading this novel, I have benefited greatly. In our people, there are many very modest, but there are some arrogant people. These arrogant people who sometimes annoying, they have eyes in the head long, others are dismissive. Indeed, the arrogance is a shortcoming in the environment to develop a character.
Chinese children from an early age by their parents as holding typical little emperors. If so has been from small to large, how could it not arrogant? So I think that we should not be arrogant people who have prejudices, but the more soul-searching myself, to see if they have not arrogant, after their own things to learn to no longer allow parents to worry about, tired.
As the book said: Heart of pride in everyone. As long as we have so a little bit of strength, they will feel especially great. But pride and vanity while the same meaning, but in real terms in different kinds of self-pride is a feeling,Vanity will need to involve other people overestimate their own, so people have a pride without vanity, which is justifiable.

Austen left this problem for us to think. The genius of Jane Austen lies in this perfect simplicity, the simplicity that reflects big problems. Although Austen was only 21 when she wrote Pride and Prejudice , her sharp observation of social lives makes the style of this book surprisingly mature and lively.
The plots in her works are always very natural. The development of the plot is as inevitable as a problem in mathematics. I think the depth of Pride and Prejudice is the reason that makes this book prominent and classic. Today, her book still can be the guide telling us the economic relationships both at her time and in modern time.
Of Personality and Marriage
----- Pride and Prejudice
一.Review of the book
Walter Scott praised Jane Austen: “That young lady has a talent for describing the involvements and feelings and characters of ordinary life which is to me the most wonderful I ever met with.” With a woman’s meticulous observation, Jane Austen shows the true pictures of the small world around her, especially the love affair and the marriage between the ladies and gentlemen.
Pride and Prejudice is the story of four marriages in British country of 18th century. Jane Austen shows the pictures of the current social life in Britain through the marriage matter, it also reflects her views on marriage. The book describes the virtuous and emotional entanglements among the single young Darcy and the second Miss. Elizabeth, and the wealthy single Bingley and the eldest Miss. Jane. The most important love story naturally happens between Elizabeth and Darcy.
Elizabeth represents prejudice, and Darcy represents pride. Elizabeth hates Darcy because of his first impression leaves to her, which is pride. Then, with Wickham’s slander, she thinks Darcy as such a proud, selfish and mean man. What’s more, when she knows the truth that it’s he who advises Bingley to leave her sister Jane, it completely lets her down, makes her heart broken and rejects his love confession. Darcy’s letter explains the truth of the two things, and then Elizabeth begins to regret her attitude to Darcy. With their reunion and association and Darcy’s deed to help Elizabeth’s family, Elizabeth begins to find out the true Darcy who’s actually not stubborn proud and love him in heart. Finally, under Catherine’s unreasonable demand that is not to marry Darcy, Elizabeth addresses her emotion, Darcy confesses his love, and the lovers get married. Elizabeth’s past prejudice against Darcy changes into genuine love.
There’re three marriages interspersed in it. Collins and Charlotte’s business marriage just satisfies their dreams. Collins wants a wife, and Charlotte wants a husband. The flattering and mediocre Collins relies on power and becomes a pastor. He gets married with Elizabeth’s close friend Charlotte immediately after Elizabeth rejects his marriage proposal. Elizabeth’s visit proves that their marriage just stays in the material surface. They’re happy to show off their wealth as the proof of happiness. Wickham and Lydia’s frivolous marriage just meets their benefits. Lydia completes her “pursuit”, and Wickham gains some money. Wickham has bad record. He squanders his heritage and attempts to seduce Darcy’s sister Georgiana to elope. Frivolous and temporal Lydia elopes with Wickham who has numerous gambling debts. When they go back home, Lydia always flaunts her marriage to others but Elizabeth feels that Wickham doesn’t love Lydia. It’s the other marriage without true love. Bingley and Jane’s marriage is happy with true feelings, like Darcy and Elizabeth’s. They have feelings for each other in the ball, and have deeper contacts with each other. But they two can’t determine the other’s mind; Bingley is persuaded by Darcy to give the affection and he leaves Jane. Jane lives in sadness. So does Bingley. He comes back to chase Jane and the lover immerses in the joy. They two are all gentle persons, so their marriage will be comfortable and filled with tender and sweet.
The different treatments and attitudes towards these marriages reflect Jane Austen’s views on marriage. It’s wrong for marriage to pursue property, money and high status. She stresses the importance of an ideal marriage and takes the feelings of both men and women as the cornerstone of the ideal marriage. We also learn that pride and prejudice are the very common problems and weaknesses in human’s personality. Everyone is easy to be driven by their own subjective consciousness or other people’s wrong comments. It may cause a misunderstanding toward a thing or a person. What we should do is to avoid these weaknesses and make them under good regulation. Everything must be based on objective sense and commented with a deeper understanding.

Comment of personality and marriage
Point 1: Character analysis
Elizabeth: There are some expressions that reflect her character. 1. Compliments always take you by surprise and me never. (P12) 2. You wanted me, I know, to say “yes” that you might have the pleasure of despising my taste; but I always delight in overthrowing those kinds of schemes, and cheating a person of their premeditated contempt. I have therefore made up my mind to tell you that I do not want to dance a reel at all---and now despise me if you dare.( P48) 3. Catherine says that you give your opinion very decidedly for so young a person. (P162) 4. There is a stubbornness about me that never can bear to be frightened at the will of others. (P171) 5. In marrying your nephew, I should not consider myself as quitting that sphere. He is a gentleman; I am a gentleman’s daughter; so far we are equal. (P350)6. Neither duty, nor honour, nor gratitude has any possible claim on me in the present instance. No principle of either would be violated by my marriage with Mr. Darcy. (P352)
Comment: It’s valuable for a young lady to an intelligent, witty and brave person. She’s not afraid of doing right things and has no fear for people who are in high status but with wrong deed. She is good at thinking and analysis. She has a strong self-esteem and never give up to high status. Elizabeth pursuits equal rights. She thinks that Darcy and she are equal because they’re all gentle. In her mind, the equality has nothing to do with sex, status, property or something else. Its people’s right to be equal and no one can offense. It’s her quality to allow her to love independently and prompt a happy life with Darcy. Elizabeth is a woman of principle. She sticks to her own principle so that she rejects Collins’s proposal. She wants to find her true love and get married with true feelings. Elizabeth is such a woman with special personality in that society. I think women in that society should learn something from it. It will do much help to their personality, life and career.

Darcy: 1. vanity is a weakness indeed. But pride---where there is a real superiority of mind, pride will be always under good regulation. (P53)2. And never allow yourself to be blinded by prejudice? I hope not. (P93)3. Elizabeth says that we are each of an unsocial, taciturn disposition, unwilling to speak unless we expect to say something that will amaze the whole room, and be handed down to posterity with all the éclat of a proverb. (P91) 4. M.Gardiner: His understanding and opinions all please me. (P319) 5. Wickham says that his pride in that direction may be of service, if not to himself, to many others, for it must deter him from such foul misconduct as I have suffered by. (P230)
Comment: So many people can’t treat Darcy’s pride correctly. Darcy’s pride is actually a reflection of differences in status. He is born with pride. It’s connected with his family, circumstance, education and personality. He has a strong sense of honor and virtue. Darcy’s pride in one aspect is to protect him. He is not good at contacting with people meet at first time, so he’s just silent, while others think he’s very proud. People can find a different Darcy after they have a deeper association and will change their attitude to him and like him. Darcy tries to be a full man, avoid some weaknesses and treat pride as good regulation. He is such a true and brave person. He will confess his feelings bravely, never give up easily, and try his best to help his sweetheart. I think such a man will be the Prince Charming of many modern girls. He’s straightforward, sincere and simple, try best to love his girl.
Jane: 1.You are too good. Your sweetness and disinterestedness are really angelic; I do not know what to say to you. I feel as if I had never done you justice, or loved you as you deserve. You wish to think all the world respectable, and are hurt if I speak ill of anybody. I only want to think you perfect, and you set yourself against it. (P132) 2. Jane would willingly have gone through the world without believing that so much wickedness existed in the whole race of mankind as was here collected in one individual. (P221)
Comment: Jane’s a very sincere and generous woman. She’s kind to everyone. Jane is a woman who’s sincere to herself and loyal to affection. While she lacks a kind of brave, she can’t just tell Bingley that she has feelings to him. She is so shy and can’t express her feelings. She puts everything in her heart. Elizabeth says that Jane seldom shows her feelings to others, even to her dearest sister. Jane hopes everything’s right and perfect. While it’s eventually a dream can’t come true. The marriage between Jane and Bingley will be happy. Both of them are tolerant and gentle. They are kind persons.
Lydia:Our importance, our responsibility in the world, must be affected by the wild volatility, the assurance and disdain of all restrain which mark Lydia’s character. Vain, ignorant, idle, ungovernable, and absolutely uncontrolled! (P227)
Comment: Lydia can be a typical representative of that society. These women want to pursue officers or men with high status to be their husband. They just marry for business. Lydia’s development of personality mostly bases on her family and social circumstance. Elizabeth says if their father checks her spirit and teaches her pursuit, she will not be affected so deeply to be a uncontrolled girl and her character will be fixed.
Point 2: Marriage between man and woman: Of man, it is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife. Of woman, they begin to pursuit independence and equal rights.
Evidence: Miss Bingley’s words of woman: No one can be really esteemed accomplished who does not greatly surpass what is usually met with. A woman must have a thorough knowledge of music, singing, drawing, dancing, all the modern language, to deserve the word; and besides all this, she must possess a certain something in her air and manner of walking, the tone of her voice, her address and expressions, or the word will be but half deserved. (P36)
Comment: A single man in possession of a good fortune must be surrounded by women. Old ladies want to introduce their daughters, and young ladies want to meet and contact. A single man wants a wife whom will be his first sight in love, or with accomplishment, or good match. People always see him as a daughter of a property. At the same, some women begin to pursuit equal rights. They want to pursuit a husband who satisfies their mind, instead of his handsome or rich. They make themselves independent and pursuit something instead of a man.
Point 3: Both Collins and Charlotte’s marriage and Wickham and Lydia’s marriage are for each one’s benefit.
Evidence: 1. Collins: My reasons for marrying are, first, that I think it a right thing for every clergyman in easy circumstances (like myself) to set the example of matrimony in his parish. Secondly, that I am convinced it will add very greatly to my happiness; and thirdly, that it is the particular advice and recommendation of the very noble lady whom I have the honor of calling patroness.(P104)Charlotte: I ask only a comfortable home; and considering Mr. Collins’s character, connections, and situation in life, I am convinced that my chance of happiness with him is as fair as mot people can boast on entering the marriage state.(P123)2. Lydia:She has exuberant spirits. Her present pursuits are the business of her life. (P227)
Comment:Collins wants a life just for three reasons above, instead of his own desire for a happy marriage. Also Charlotte wants a husband who can guarantee her rest of life. Lydia always pursuits an officer, and tightly hold on to Wickham. Because of the benefit of the marriage, that is debt paid off and money given, they get married. There is no love between them; their gorgeous marriage is actually a social tragedy. It’s wrong to marry for property, money and status. Their marriages aren’t based feelings and affections. They just marry for business.
Point 4: Both Darcy and Elizabeth’s marriage and Bingley and Jane’s marriage are true love.
Evidence: 1. From the very beginning, from the first moment, I may almost say, of my acquaintance with you, your manners impressing me with the fullest belief of your arrogance, your conceit, and your selfish disdain of the feelings of others, were such as to form that groundwork of disapprobation on which succeeding events have built so immovable a dislike; and I had not known you a month before I felt that you were the last man in the world whom I could ever be prevailed on to marry.(P190) Hatred had vanished long ago, and she had almost as long been ashamed of ever feeling a dislike against him that could be so called. The respected created by the conviction of his valuable qualities, thought at first unwillingly admitted, had for some time ceased to be repugnant to her feelings. (P258) 2. Jane’s attitude to her first attachment: Having never even fancied herself in love before, her regard had all the warmth of first attachment, and from her age and disposition, greater steadiness than first attachments often boast; and so fervently did her good sense, and all her attention to the feelings of her friends, were requisite to check the indulgence of those regrets, which must have been injurious to her own health and their tranquility. (P223) Bingley really loved me, and nothing but a persuasion of my being indifferent would have prevented his coming down again! (P344)
Comment: The marriage between Darcy and Elizabeth is the elimination of Darcy’s pride and Elizabeth’s prejudice. Elizabeth is confused by prejudice first, finally finds out the true Darcy and falls in love with charismatic Darcy. Jane is serious to her first attachment, so she’s sad when Bingley leaves her, at the same time, Bingley is also sad to leave her. From the twists and turns of their emotional roads, we can feel the hardship and power of love. Tough love can be true love.

(Actually she is a pedant.) Kitty doesnt have her own opinion but likes to follow her sister, Lydia. Lydia is a girl who follows exotic things, handsome man, and is somehow a little profligate. When I read the book, I can always find the same personalities in the society now. That is why I think this book is indeed the representative of the society in Britain in the 18th century.
The family of gentleman in the countryside is Jane Austens favourite topic. But this little topic can reflect big problems. It concludes the stratum situation and economic relationships in Britain in her century. You can find these from the very beginning of this book.
Austen left this problem for us to think. The genius of Jane Austen lies in this perfect simplicity, the simplicity that reflects big problems. Although Austen was only 21 when she wrote Pride and Prejudice, her sharp observation of social lives makes the style of this book surprisingly mature and lively.
The plots in her works are always very natural. The development of the plot is as inevitable as a problem in mathematics. I think the depth of Pride and Prejudice is the reason that makes this book prominent and classic. Today, her book still can be the guide telling us the economic relationships both at her time and in modern time.

Pride and Prejudice Book Review
The novel centres on Elizabeth Bennet, the second of the five daughters of a landed country gentleman. The story opens with news in the Bennet family that Mr Bingley, a wealthy, charismatic and sociable young bachelor, is moving into Netherfield Park in the neighbourhood. Mr Bingley is soon well received while his friend Mr Darcy makes a less favourable impression by appearing proud and condescending at a ball that they attend. Mr Bingley singles out Jane for particular attention, and it soon becomes apparent that they have formed an attachment to each other. While Jane does not alter her conduct for him, she confesses her great happiness only to Lizzie. By contrast, Darcy slights Elizabeth, who overhears and jokes about it despite feeling a budding resentment. On paying a visit to Mr Bingley"s sister, Caroline, Jane is caught in a heavy downpour, catching cold, and is forced to stay at Netherfield for several days. Elizabeth arrives to nurse her sister and is thrown into frequent company with Mr Darcy, who begins to act less coldly towards her. In the spring, Elizabeth visits Charlotte and Mr Collins in Kent. Elizabeth and her hosts are frequently invited to Rosings Park, coincidentally, Darcy also arrives to visit. Thus, she is no mood to accept when Darcy arrives and, quite unexpectedly, confesses love for her and begs her hand in marriage. His proposal is flattering, as he is a very distinguished man, but it is delivered in a manner that is ill suited. He talks of love but also of revulsion at her inferior position and family. Despite assertions to the contrary, he assumes she will accept him. Elizabeth rebukes him, and a heated discussion follows; she charges him with destroying the happiness of both her sister and Bingley, with treating Mr Wickham disgracefully and with having conducted himself towards her in an arrogant, ungentleman-like manner. Mr Darcy, shocked, ultimately responds with a letter giving a good account of his actions. Elizabeth, who had previously despaired over this very behavior, is forced to admit the truth of Mr Darcy"s observations, and begins to see that she has misjudged him. She, quite rightly, attributes her prejudice to his coldness towards herself at the beginning of their acquaintance. Some months later, Elizabeth and her aunt and uncle Gardiner visit Pemberley, Darcy"s estate, believing he will be absent for the day. He returns unexpectedly and is surprised but gracious and welcoming, quite unlike his usual self. He treats the Gardiners very civilly, surprising Elizabeth, who assumes he will "decamp immediately" on learning who they are. Elizabeth begins to acknowledge her own attraction to him. Darcy returns to Longbourn. Chance allows Elizabeth and Darcy a rare moment alone. He renews his proposal of marriage and is promptly accepted. Elizabeth soon learns that his hopes were revived by his aunt"s report of Elizabeth"s refusal to promise not to marry him.
The novel closes with a "happily-ever-after" chapter including a summary of the remaining lives of the main characters. None of the characters changes very much in this summary, but Kitty has grown slightly more sensible from association with Jane and Elizabeth and distance from Lydia, and Lady Catherine eventually condescends to visit the Darcy family.
To begin with, I’d like to talk about the relationship of heroine. At the beginning of the story, Elisabeth takes a shine to Wickham, but after she knows notorious for his misdeeds, she has other feelings which soon drive away. When Wickham proposes marriage to?someone else, Elisabeth is unperturbed and quiet inside.
Next, I’d like to tell the love story of hero Darcy and heroine Elisabeth. In the first place, Elisabeth is just hate Darcy which is reaching a point that even if the man in the world is all dead, she won’t choose to marry him. But after Elisabeth find out she is mistaken about Darcy, it makes Elisabeth feel guilty about that. In a consequence of receiving courteous treatment from Darcy, Elisabeth feels extremely flattered.
Darcy’s first proposal is a remarkable self-assertion, a refusal of one of the most eligible bachelors in the whole of England by a girl of no position and no means. This is extremely impressive, but is surely depends on her opinion of what his opinion of her is. She cannot tolerate the belief she attributes to him that he is marrying beneath himself.
There is no doubt that Elizabeth believes what she says to Darcy and is truly indignant at his behavior, but her indignation masks the fact that these are only excuses for her dislike of Darcy. Collins’s manners are at least as bad, but the passions of her soul do not combine in a passionate attack on him. With him she is objective and detached, or, at most, irritated. But with Darcy she is enraged because of his hold over her, the fact that his opinion really does count.
The real objection to Darcy is his taking her for granted and the hopeless inferiority that a marriage with him would entail. All the power is in his hands, and his only attachment to her appears to be an uncontrollable attraction without the support of either the conventional standards or a reverence for her virtue. Throughout a marriage that began in this way, he wold have the advantage in every disagreement, for she would merely be a siren who entrapped him counter to all the good reasons for permanent moral attachment. Her accusations help her to avoid admitting the less than noble reasons for her resentment. Her education in the novel is learning to accept her dependence. Marriage between these two savages requires the acceptance by each of slavery to the other, while each thinks that he or she ought to be the master. Elizabeth would never marry a man whom she ought to be the master. Elizabeth would never marry a man whom she considered her inferior, while she hates a man who considers himself her superior. Equality of the partners would seem to be the answer, and it is. But the establishment of equality between two strong-willed individuals is not such an easy thing and probably requires each to think the other is superior. The fact is that Elizabeth would very much like to marry Mr. Darcy, and she must only persuade herself that she is taming her own will rather than being tamed by Darcy and that Darcy requires her for substantial and enduring reasons. The correctives to pride and prejudice, and progress in self-knowledge, result from the combative engagement of these two doubting warriors. The need to explain himself to another forces him to explain himself to himself. This is the immediate effect Elizabeth has on him, and it is probably the deepest long-range effect it will have on him in their marriage.
Virtue, he learns, is not so self-sufficient as he thought and requires the confirmation of valid judges. This reciprocal recognition is the heart of romance as Rousseau taught it.
Throughout all of Austen’s works the heroines are somehow self-generated. She discounts the authority and respectability of the parents, who are distinctly inferior beings, particularly from the point of view of wisdom or prudence. This is a sign of the unconventional or radical side of Austen’s point of view. Her heroines fit into the conventional order, but that does not entirely disguise the unconventional grounds of the relationships. They are triumph of nature over convention.
However charming Mr. Bennet’s detachment, its godlike distance from the things that agitate most people is callous and perverse. Mr. Bennet is a charming dropout. He helps us to see people as they are, but he is not so helpful in understanding the virtuous.
Although Austen criticizes the lack of proper education in the Bennet family, Jane and Elizabeth, like so many of Austen’s good characters, are self-made. This underlines her belief that nature is far more important than convention, even though she treats the framework of convention with great respect.
Jane Austen’s world, when one comes to Pride and Prejudice fresh from The Red and the Black, is boring. But when one actually reads Austen, the intensity and excitement are as great as or greater than what one discovers in other writers. It is a kind of miracle, but the fate of Jane and Elizabeth Bennet in their relations to Bingley and Darcy engages us. Stripped of all external drama, the history of the heart as presented by Austen is endlessly fascinating.
Irony flourishes on the disproportion between the way things are and the way they should be while accepting the necessity of this disproportion.
But she dose make us laugh at these things, indicating that there is much joy and strength to be gained simply from knowing. This perspective is largely absent in the Romantics. This woman who writes exclusively of the relation between male and femal, and who, as a writer, is nothing but a matchmaker, was herself a spinster, and none the worse for it.
Austen represents and justifies reason and leisure in human affairs when they are in short supply and without much honor in literature and life. A decent respect for the perhaps illusory convictions of men who are at least partly decent is his mode, a mode that protects him as well as these men and gets more to the heart of things. Rather than railing at stupidity and boasting, comedy does best to treat them with the greatest apparent respect, as dose Socrates in both Plato’s and Xenophon’s account of him. This is also Jane Austen’s mode. It was not that they(classical writers) simply rejected or despised love in marriage, but that is got in the way of being reasonable. They appear to have said: be reasonable first and love might follow later.
Austen’s heroes must think through their attractions and tend not to have the experience of le coup de foudre, but this thinking through is an attempt to ascertain the genuineness and seriousness of the sentiments rather than to discover whether having such sentiments is reasonable. Jane Austen would never insist on the illusoriness of love, and she always underpins love with solid supports like property and proof of fixed character.
The greatest betrayal of the seriousness of the relationship would be to decide about marriage on the basis of mere sexual attraction. Jane Austen presents a reasonable picture of what may be an unreasonable hope, that is, the harmonious union of sexual desire with love, marriage, and friendship.
Pride is evidently understood to be a vice, particularly by those who think they are victims of Darcy’s or anyone else’s alleged high self-esteem, but that self-esteem is essential to both Darcy’s and Elizabeth’s strong characters as well as to their capacity to get along with each other. Each claims to other people’s opinions; but actually they are both extremely sensitive to the opinions of those they might get romantically involved with or whom they consider to be worthy judges of themselves. There is a delicate balance between the need for self-esteem and the need for the esteem of others, and neither can be sacrificed to the other.
Everybody gets the kind of marriage he or she deserves. The punishment of bad or foolish persons follows immediately from the character of their choice of mates and situations.
The stakes are human happiness, and people are more or less happy on the basis of their choice of a partner. Very few people have powerful erotic attractions and even fewer are faithful partisans of their attractions. In addition, even fewer persons love virtue. And fewest are those who have a discerning judgment about the character of others and what is fitting. The many have marriages, and hence human relationships, that exist only by law and public opinion. The few have substantial attachments that consist in continuous delight in the company of the other.

Even the five daughters in Bennet family are very different. reading classic books. (Actually she is a pedant.) Kitty doesn "thave her own opinion but likes to follow her sister, Lydia. Lydia is a girl who follows exotic things, handsome man, and is somehow a little profligate. When I read the book, I can always find the same personalities in the society now. That is why I think this book is indeed the representative of the society in Britain in the 18th century.
The family of gentleman in the countryside is Jane Austen "s favourite topic. But this little topic can reflect big problems. It concludes the stratum situation and economic relationships in Britain in her century. You can find these from the very beginning of this book.
The first sentence in this book is impressive. It reads: “ Itis a truth well known to all the world that an unmarried man in possession of a large fortune must be in need of a wife ”.The undertone is very clear: the foundation of the marriage at that time is not emotion but possession.
People always think that Austen was an expert at telling love stories. In fact, the marriage in her book is not the result of love, but the result of economic needs. After reading this book, I know the truth is that a poor woman must be in need of a husband, a wealthy man.
I couldn "tforget how eager Mrs. Bennet wants to marry off her
man or woman in possession of a large fortune to continue their comfortable lives. Thus, we can see that getting married is a way to become wealthier, particularly for women without many possessions. Jane Austen told us that money and possession determined everything, including marriage and love in her century.
In “ Pride and Prejudice ”th,e sister of Mr. Bingley strongly opposed his plan of marrying Jane because the Bennets don "thave many possessions and their social positions are much lower than them. From this, we can see there are a lot of obstacles for a not very rich woman to marry a wealthy husband. The society, the relatives would not allow them to get married.
In modern society, although the marriages of economic needs have decreased rapidly, the concept of “ money determines everything i”s still
rooted in some people "smind. A lot of parents try hard to interfere their children "msarriages. Education background, possessions, jobs remains the main reason that may influence one "smarriage. Marry for money is still a big problem in our society. We can "thelp thinking: can money determine everything?
Austen left this problem for us to think. The genius of Jane Austen lies in this perfect simplicity, the simplicity that reflects big problems.
Although Austen was only 21 when she wrote “ Pride and Prejudice , ”her sharp observation of social lives makes the style of this book surprisingly mature and lively. The plots in her works are always very natural. The development of the plot is as inevitable as a problem in mathematics. I think the depth of Pride and Prejudice is the reason that makes this book prominent and classic. Today, her book still can be the guide telling us the economic relationships both at her time and in modern time.

Impressions of Pride and Prejudice
I’ve read a book called Pride and Prejudice written by Jane Austen during this winter holidays. Jane Austen was unmarried all her life. She was born in a mid-class family and was brought up in a comfortable environment with harmonious surroundings, so there’s not too many conflicts in her sight neither in her novel. In Pride and Prejudice she talked different ideas about love and marriage through different characters.
The novel has told an interesting story: Mr. Bennet is an English gentleman with an estate in Hertfordshire. He has five unmarried daughters but no sons while his inheritance must be inherited by a male, so Mrs. Bennet has been keen to seek husband for her daughters with great enthusiasm. One day the Bennets had a new neighbor called Bingley who was a wealthy bachelor and followed be the target of Mrs. Bennet. At a ball Bingley fell in love with Jane Bennet who’s the oldest daughter of the Bennets. Bingley’s friend Darcy also came to the ball and struck the sights, many girls liked him while he thought all of them couldn’t suit his preference, including Elizabeth. Mr. Darcy always shows others a impression of pride, having found this Elizabeth began to hate Mr. Darcy. Before long Darcy fell in love with Elizabeth Bennett(second oldest daughter in the Bennets) because of her lovely behavior, while Elizabeth is disgusted by his pride and has a prejudice about him. The official Wickham was welcomed by the villagers, and Elizabeth also took a shine to him. Wickham told Elizabeth that his father had been the steward of the Darcys. The old Darcy had regarded Wickham as his own son and showed more love to him than to Mr. Darcy. After the old Darcy died, the property should be inherited by Wickham was all deprived by Mr. Darcy, also was his pastorate. All this increased Eli’s prejudice about Mr. Darcy. At another ball Mr. Darcy invited Elizabeth to dance with him, but Eli refused him. Eli’s elder male cousin Mr. Collin came to Hertfordshire to inherit the Bennett"s property by rules, he wanted to marry with one of the Bennets. Having known that Jane was already engaged with Mr. Bingley, he asked Elizabeth to marry him but was seriously rejected. At last he proposed to Charllote who was Eli’s friend. Mr. Collins was good at flattering and he got the pastorate with the help of Lady Catherine. Once his family was invited to Rosings Garden by Lady Catherine. Elizabeth also went there with Mr. Collin and Charllote. There she met Mr. Darcy who’s Lady Catherine’s nephew. Later in a garden, Sir William told Eli about Mr. Darcy’s latest act of dissuading Mr. Bingley’s marring Jane Bennet which caused Eli’s exceedingly anger. Then Mr. Darcy came to the Collins’ and confessed his love for Elizabeth, of course he was rejected impolitely. Afterwards Mr. Darcy wrote a letter to Eli in order to remove her misunderstandings of him. Elizabeth’s uncle and aunt were also impressed by Mr. Darcy’s politeness. Gradually Eli’s prejudice of Mr. Darcy diappeared. Eventually they became couple.
The writer Jane Austen disclosed mid-class young ladies’ different ideas of marriage and love through describing the different ways in which the Bennet girls doing with their marriage problems ,and this undoubtedly shows the writer’s idea about love and marriage: it’s wrong to get married just for property, wealth and status while neither would it be without caring about those elements.Jane Austen just attached great significance to marriage through her novel by telling people that marriage should be regarded carefully cause it is not a game you could just enjoy without prudent consideration. She also wanted to deliver information that marriage should be based on real love between the lovers. The female subject Elizabeth is a mid-class girl, and Darcy proposed to her regardless of the gap between them, but Elizabeth refused because of his pride had formed Eli’s prejudice. Cause Darcy’s pride was a suggest of status gap between he and Eli, he wouldn’t have the same thought with Eli and consequently the ideal marriage. But later Darcy’s doings especially his change of the prideful manner eliminated Eli’s misunderstandings and prejudice about him, and Eli accepted his proposal. Those two opposite attitudes reflect female’s pursue of independent personality and equality. I think Elizabeth has personality ethic which caused her independent idea about love and marriage and in consequence she earned a happy life. There’re also Eli’s sisters’ love stories served as contrasts to the female subject’s ideal marriage, such as Charlotte and Collin’s life: they do had a luxury life, but there’s no real love between them and this kind of marriage is
surely a tragedy of society.

After reading:Pride and Prejudice
About the story:
Jane Austen is this novel’s writer who is a famous writer in the world, and she is famoused with her a series of novel.s.
Mrs.Bennet had five daughters, and marrying all her daughters was her biggest wish .In a genteel ball, Mr. Bingley , a friendly young man, also the host, fell in love with Jane at first sight.Jane was Mrs.Bennet "s first daughter who was simple, pure and never speaks evil of others. Darcy ,who was Bingley "s good friend ,a very proud man who seemed to always feel superior, was fond of Jane’s sister,Elizabeth. But his arrogance behavior and the smear from Wickham led Elizabeth to misunderstand and was biassed against Darcy .
??? Darcy couldn"t restrain himself from loving Elizabeth ,so he proposed to her.But his attitude was still so arrogant ,Elizabeth declined firmly. This hit made Darcy noticed the consequence from proud and conceited for the first time. Leaving a long letter to explain the things around him and Elizabeth, he left her painfully. She felt regret after reading it . Not only feel guilty for misunderstanding of Darcy , but also ashamed for the behavior of her mother.
??? Elizabeth gradually changed her views of Darcy. When Darcy met her in his own manor again, his sincere attitude and dignified behavior made her considerably surprised. Finally ,they walked out of the frog which was pride and prejudice .It could be called a happy ending.
There are seven different marriages presented in the novel. Excluding the Gardiner and the Lucas, the remaining five marriages contrasts each other to reveal Jane’s opinions and thoughts on the subject of marriage.
The marriage between Darcy and Elizabeth reveals the characteristics which constitutes a successful marriage. One of these characteristics is that the feeling cannot be brought on by appearances, and must gradually develop between the two people as they get to know one another. In the beginning, Elizabeth and Darcy were distant from each other because of their prejudice. The series of events which they both experienced gave them the opportunity to understand one another and the time to reconcile their feelings for each other. Thus, their mutual understanding is the foundation of their relationship and will lead them to a peaceful and lasting marriage. This relationship between Elizabeth and Darcy reveals the importance of getting to know one’s partner before marrying. The marriage between Jane Bennet and Bingley is also an example of successful marriage. Jane Austen, through Elizabeth, expresses her opinion of this in the novel.
The last example of a marriage is a of a different nature than the ones mentioned above. The marriage between Mr. Collins and Charlotte is based on economics rather than on love or appearance. It was a common practice during Austen’s time for women to marry a husband to save herself from spinsterhood or to gain financial security. However, Jane Austen viewed this as a type of prostitution and disapproved of it. In Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen dramatizes this form of women inequality and show that women who submits themselves to this type of marriage will have to suffer in tormenting silence as Charlotte does.
In Pride and Prejudice, Jane has denounced the elements of marriage and society that she found distasteful. These are the conclusions of her observation of the people in her world. However in her writing, Jane has also reflected her own enjoyment in life among these people with and without their faults.
About my opinions:
Believe it or not,I have readed this story no less times no matter book movie. I readed it again and again, and the more time I read the story is more than a love story I found.
I like this story for the outsdanding characteristic of the characters.
A good book not only can bring you exciting, but also give you some further thingking. From the Pride and Prejudice,I lean a lot.First,it’s stupid to judge a person by the first impression and always have prejudice on the person who you don’t like.In a word,we can’t judge a person without any further reconigse or by other people’s words.Just like Elizabeth, under Wickham’s evil speaking she judge Darcy wad a pround and hatest man and began to have prejudice on him,and kept misunderstanding him.As a reselt, she was failed to see the merists of darcy.Other example,Mr.Binely persuadeed himself run away from falling in love with june for having heard Darcy’s word that June didn’t like him,at least no more deeper than him. This hurted two loved heart. They even almost missed each other. By the way,we can learn that pride sometimes will make you far away from others. You can’t deny that the country people didn’t like Darcy very much no matter how rich he.For,he always feels superior to the country people. And,because Darcy’s pround,he offended the girl he love.
Then, After reading this book, I couldn’t forget how eager Mrs.Bennet wants to marry off her daughters. Why is she so crazy about that?I know it’s because of money. money is very important for our lives. Money is required for food, shelter, and clothing, so many things in our life need money. With money, you can make your life more comfortable . You will be able to buy a big house with servants. But, Can money determine everything? How could a marriage maintain without love bue just for money? From the marriage between Charlotte Lucas and Mr. Collins, we found that their marriage totally depended on the position, money, and the background, not the love. Most women choose the men who can satisfy their material comforts to be their husbands at that time, just like Charlotte Lucas. She married Mr. Collins although she shared no common interests with him. She didn’t love him while she married him indeed. She persuaded herself to tolerate her husband’s strange and foolish behavior, and her only comfort was her big new house and rich material life. While in my eye, it’s really unfortunate to rest hope on the material comforts for her rest life. Although sometimes it’s necessary to consider the property, position, and background in the marriage, it’s stupit to marry just for the money. Charlotte Lucas married for the possession not love, and on the other hand, Mr. Collins married her because he needed a wife, not for love, either. Their marriage seemed to be necessary but not happy. But how to maintain the marriage without love? Fortunately,I don’t know more them in the end of the book.
About other readers’opinions;
1: After reading this book,so many opinions accured to me. It’s really a good book to make me think much. Only can I remember is—-money and marriage.
2: he most popular among the Austen"s volumes is Pride and Prejudice that takes the theme of love and marriage in a mildly humorous way of expression. As a female writer, she shows different attitudes toward marriage by depicting several young women of different descent, economic position and horizon of knowledge. A simple theme introduces a great deal of what is about life. The whole book teems with authoress" wit and insight. And this inclination and intention cannot escape from the reach of her living circle and reveal some of her points about worldly life.
3:Love perhas is deveople by misundersdanding which make lovers know more each other and fall in love with each other.Maybe we need forgivention sprit.
4:As a lady ,I think ,we should take a more objective view to sentiment. Reputation is the most important thing in a girl’s life whenever and wherever, just as Elisabth.

the impression of pride and prejudice
the book《 pride and prejudice》 is written by jane austen , a famous english writer .
i still remember the first sentence in this
book .it reads :it is a truth well known to all the world that an unmarried man in possession of a large fortune must in need of a wife . the undertone is very clear : the foundation of the marriage at that time is not emotion but possession. love seems to be a perpetual theme all the time .and the main story in the book pride and prejudice is not a exception .the writer tells us her views and attitudes about love and marriage in this book.
the novel mainly tells us a love story between elizabath and mr. darcy.it is at a ball that elizabeth meets mr. darcy for the first time and his pride and supercilious behaviors has left elizabeth a terrible impression . this is the reason why elizabeths prejudice towards him begins .besides this
reason ,there are two other incidents strengthens elizabeths prejudice .the first is that wickham
speaks ill of mr. darcy, which makes elizabeth thinks him is unworthy to making acquaince of.the second is that elizabeth regards darcy is the person who
separates her sister jane and mr. bingley.but with the plots developing ,darcy has changed himself and become no longer pride ,he also helps jane and bingleys reunion .all these factor change
elizabeths attitude towards darcy. eventually , elizabeth and darcy become a couple and lead a happy life from then on.
after reading this novel, i realize the
author—jane austen’s attitudes and views towards love and marriage: is unpractical to get married just for property, wealth and social status while would it be without caring about these elements. marriage should be based on a real love and it is not a game! you can not just enjoy it without prudent
considerations. there is a gap which is called pride and prejudice between elizabeth and darcy , for they possess different society status and amount of property. but the ending which the author arranges that elizabeth and darcy break all the obstacles and
become a love couple suggests that true do exist no matter how different the background ,the status is .and i think this book will arouse people’s awareness of the importance of true love in a marriage.
impressions of pride and prejudice
i?ve read a book called pride and prejudice written by jane austen during this winter holidays. jane austen was unmarried all her life. she was born in a mid-class family and was brought up in a comfortable environment with harmonious surroundings, so there?s not too many conflicts in her sight neither in her novel. in pride and prejudice she talked different ideas about love and marriage through different characters.
the novel has told an interesting story: mr. bennet is an english gentleman with an estate in hertfordshire. he has five unmarried daughters but no sons while his inheritance must be inherited by a male, so mrs. bennet has been keen to seek husband for her daughters with great enthusiasm. one day the bennets had a new neighbor called bingley who was a wealthy bachelor and followed be the target of mrs. bennet. at a ball bingley fell in love with jane bennet who?s the oldest daughter of the bennets. bingley?s friend darcy also came to the ball and struck the sights, many girls liked him while he thought all of them couldn?t suit his preference, including elizabeth. mr. darcy always shows others a impression
of pride, having found this elizabeth began to hate mr. darcy. before long darcy fell in love with elizabeth bennett(second oldest daughter in the bennets) because of her lovely behavior, while elizabeth is disgusted by his pride and has a prejudice about him. the official wickham was welcomed by the villagers, and elizabeth also took a shine to him. wickham told elizabeth that his father had been the steward of the darcys. the old darcy had regarded wickham as his own son and showed more love to him than to mr. darcy. after the old darcy died, the property should be inherited by wickham was all deprived by mr. darcy, also was his pastorate. all this increased eli?s prejudice about mr. darcy. at another ball mr. darcy invited elizabeth to dance with him, but eli refused him. eli?s elder male cousin mr. collin came to hertfordshire to inherit the bennetts property by rules, he wanted to marry with one of the bennets. having known that jane was already engaged with mr. bingley, he asked elizabeth to marry him but was seriously rejected. at last he proposed to charllote who was eli?s friend. mr. collins was good at flattering and he got the pastorate with the help of lady catherine. once his
family was invited to rosings garden by lady catherine. elizabeth also went there with mr. collin and charllote. there she met mr. darcy who?s lady catherine?s nephew. later in a garden, sir william told eli about mr. darcy?s latest act of dissuading mr. bingley?s marring jane bennet which caused eli?s exceedingly anger. then mr. darcy came to the collins? and confessed his love for elizabeth, of course he was rejected impolitely. afterwards mr. darcy wrote a letter to eli in order to remove her misunderstandings of him. elizabeth?s uncle and aunt were also impressed by mr. darcy?s politeness. gradually eli?s prejudice of mr. darcy diappeared. eventually they became couple.
the writer jane austen disclosed mid-class young ladies? different ideas of marriage and love through describing the different ways in which the bennet girls doing with their marriage problems ,and this undoubtedly shows the writer?s idea about love and marriage: it?s wrong to get married just for property, wealth and status while neither would it be without caring about those elements.jane austen just attached great significance to marriage through her novel by telling people that marriage should
be regarded carefully cause it is not a game you could just enjoy without prudent consideration. she also wanted to deliver information that marriage should be based on real love between the lovers. the female subject elizabeth is a mid-class girl, and darcy proposed to her regardless of the gap between them, but elizabeth refused because of his pride had formed eli?s prejudice. cause darcy?s pride was a suggest of status gap between he and eli, he wouldn?t have the same thought with eli and consequently the ideal marriage. but later darcy?s doings especially his change of the prideful manner eliminated eli?s misunderstandings and prejudice about him, and eli accepted his proposal. those two opposite attitudes reflect female?s pursue of independent personality and equality. i think elizabeth has personality ethic which caused her independent idea about love and marriage and in consequence she earned a happy life. there?re also eli?s sisters? love stories served as contrasts to the female subject?s ideal marriage, such as charlotte and collin?s life: they do had a luxury life, but there?s no real love between them and this kind of marriage is
surely a tragedy of society.
love and marriage is a constant topic among human, in pride and prejudice, jane austen told a story about five marriages for us in her rational and humorous writing tone, which explains the truth of marriage: love. marriage should be based on love, while it can’t have access to happiness when just based on money or appearance. and a deeper knowledge is needed when we start our affection . exclude vanity and prejudice, and think about each others moral character objectively, and we can know someone better and more exact---- only good moral character deserves real love.
all in all, we must be for love alignment in the face of marriage; and we must will be subject to moral character in the face of love; and we must be objective and fair in the face of judging the moral character.

I couldn’t forget how eager Mrs. Bennet wants to marry off her daughters. If you want to know why she is so crazy about these things, I must mention the situation in Britain at that time. Only the eldest son had the privilege of inheriting his father’s possessions. Younger sons and daughters who are used to luxurious lives have no choice but marry a man or woman in possession of a large fortune to continue their comfortable lives. Thus, we can see that getting married is a way to become wealthier, particularly for women without many possessions. Jane Austen told us that [1][2][3]下一頁 英文讀后感》
