Looking at dark sky at night for a while, you may see a red star. It has dazzling color. People call it “Mars”. In the solar system, beyond the third planet, the fourth one is “Mars”. It is a planet which is far away from Earth, about 2 hundred million kilometers on average. It is so charming that many scientists and people want to go there. Yes, distance lends enchantment to the view. Exploring space is not as easy as you might think. It is beyond your imagination. Scientists still make great contributions to exploring space and they also get good results. Space exploration is developing successfully. Scientists have made great progress with this project in only a few years’ time. In the past fifty years, people have launched many detectors into the unknown universe and planets. However, most of them ended with failure. These detectors still helped the scientists and people to know more about this science. The first time they launched the detectors to Mars was in 1960s. From then on, two super countries, America and the Soviet Union, started a competition to explore Mars. They never stopped launching detectors to Mars. Even if two thirds of them failed. However, it didn’t stop us from exploring space. Distance should not be an obstacle to exploring space. At the beginning of XX. NASA Launched two detectors to Mars, and both of them landed safty. They sent many useful information to Earth. It was really exciting news! Before that, a detector launched by Europe was lost in Universe. It was a shock to the scientific community, but they will never give up. As a matter of fact, the purpose of launching so many detectors to space is to find a planet with life and the basic element – water. The moon is far away from Earth, but it is the nearest star to Earth. People have been fascinated by the moon since ancient times until 1969 when astronauts from America landed on the moon. They found that the moon was just a satellite, without water, air, atmosphere and life, so people’s fantasies about moon were broken. The moon is a real “Wide-cold Palace”, it also has very bad weather, extremely cold at night and extremely hot during daytime. Nothing can subsist on the moon. When the astronauts landed on the moon, it was as if the distance went from 380 thousand kilometers to zero kilometers. All the beautiful fantasies and legends about moon were broken, so people now aim their eyes on Mars. They hope that one day the astronauts can step on Mars and realize our new dream. Since we know the truth of moon, it is not so tempting to us. But poems about the moon can still give us some yearning. Compare the beginnings of space travel with exploring space today. The exploration of space today is more useful. Many people are fond of Mars because among the nine planets in the solar system it is the most similar to Earth, so we call them “Brother Planets”. On Mars, there is a thin atmosphere lay and some oxygen. The detectors have found that there once exisited water. Due to the low gravity, the water all ran into space. The exploration of space is not only helping us know more about the unknown space, but also telling us a way to the new science and possibly a homeland. In other words, people may realize the dream of living on another planets.

The Bible is God"s holy Word. It is God"s message to us, and it is the most important book in the entire world.
The Bible is the classic works in Christianity, and it provides the British literature with inexhaustible materials. So the Bible has deep influence on British literature. British writers use stories of the Bible by three main methods. First, they quote persons names or stories of the Bible as the characters names or plots of the creations from the Bible directly. Sometimes they make some changes on the original stories. Sometimes they quote stories directly from the Bible as the writing materials. Second, they make use of symbolic meaning of the Bible by some technical such as simile, metaphor and symbolism, so that the stories could exert a great influence on contrasting with the new products. Third, the Bible influences British literature on styles and artistic characteristics. The books retell most of the narratives of the Bible in 411 stories. The books have been marketed in the United States for many years by placing the first volume, which covers the first part of the book of Genesis, in doctor"s offices with postage prepaid post cards included for readers to order the set or ask for more information. Originally written in English, the books have been translated into French and Spanish, and a new revision has been made based on the New International Version (NIV) translation of the Bible.
As the Holy Bible of the Christianity, its own has strong artistic charm and great aesthetic value, making it as the source of British literary works creation. The Bible records the merits, the faults and evil of the world, reflects the ancient feelings, implorations and ideals, explores the mystery relationships among God, people and the universe, and studies the philosophy of the relationships between people and people, people and the universe, human destiny and life values. British literary works all embody the Bible in all aspects. Therefore, the understanding of the Bible will further our understanding of British literature, will deepen our appreciation of British culture and ideology, and will make us learn, research and appreciate the British literary works better.
I"ve learnt a story from the Bible about Esau and his brother Jacob. They are twins. However, they are so different in temperament: Esau is rough and honest , and Jacob ideceives. One day, Jacob cooks a stew . At this moment, Esau returns from hunting, very exhausted and thirsty, so he asks for it. But Jacob insists that Esau sell his birthright to him and swear an oath. And finally Esau does as Jacob says.
As we can see , Esau sells his right as the firstborn just for a mess of pottage. It is Esau not Jacob who has the right to inherit what his father owns. At such a low price, he sells it .He keeps his eyes only on immediate needs , without considerating long-term interests , which should be a lesson for all of us.
Esau"s story and lessons also apply to people like you and me , who are living in a complex modern society. We are faced with too much temptation. In such cases, you are likely to be conqured and probably do something stupid. How to avoid this? What you can do ,from my point of view , is to keep your reason, stay cool-headed, think over and figure out a solution which can balance immediate interests and long-term interests.
The Bible is the story of man"s complete ruin in sin and God"s perfect salvation in Christ. The Bible is God"s love letter to us, telling us that, even though we have turned away from God and broken His commandments, God loves us with all His heart and He wants us to come back to Him. The most precious truth in all the Bible is that the Son of God loved us so much that he left heaven and became a man so that He could die on the cross for our sins. We are not saved by what we do for God, but by what God has done for us in the person of His Son. The Bible says,"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.","Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved…"? "What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it. "
The Bible is the most important book in the world because it tells us how to be saved. God gave us this wonderful book that we might know the truth about ourselves, about sin, about Satan, about God, and about salvation.? From beginning to end, the Bible has one great theme — the Person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ. The books of the Bible fall into five main groups: The Old Testament gives us the history of Abraham and his descendants who became the nation of Israel. The great theme of the Old Testament is a promised Savior. Isaiah wrote, "For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." The Gospels tell us that the promised Savior has come. They tell us about the Lord Jesus Christ and what He said and did. The Acts tell about the coming of the Holy Spirit, the beginning of the Church, and the preaching of the gospel — the "good news" that Christ died for our sins and rose again to be our living Savior.? The Epistles explain the gospel and tell us how we can be saved and how to live the Christian life. The Revelation tells us how all things will end. Wouldn"t it be wonderful if we had someone who knew all about God to teach us His wonderful book? Well, there is Someone like that. He is the Holy Spirit. The moment we take Christ as our Savior, the Holy Spirit comes to live in us. He lives in every believer, and He teaches us the things of God.

Jane Eyre, is a poor but aspiring, small in body but huge in soul, obscure but self-respecting girl. After we close the covers of the book, after having a long journey of the spirit, Jane Eyre, a marvelous figure, has left us so much to recall and to think:

We remember her goodness: for someone who lost arms and blinded in eyes, for someone who despised her for her ordinariness, and even for someone who had hurt her deeply in the past.

We remember her pursuit of justice. It’s like a companion with the goodness. But still, a virtuous person should promote the goodness on one side and must check the badness on the other side.

We remember her self-respect and the clear situation on equality. In her opinion, everyone is the same at the God’s feet. Though there are differences in status、property and also in appearance, but all the human being are equal in personality.

We also remember her striving for life, her toughness and her confidence…

When we think of this girl, what she gave us was not a pretty face or a transcendent temperament that make us admire deeply, but a huge charm of her personality.

Animal farm is the first book I choose to read among the list of BBC Top 100 Novels. The book has aroused strong reaction and became famous since the date it was published. It reveals human reality by telling animals’ story in funny but extremely ironic way.

The story begins with a meeting held in one night by the animals in farm. Because of the great dissatisfaction of their owner, animals decide to have a revolution, chasing away the farmers and realize the equality among animals. They make definitions about “friends” and “enemy”, elect the leader- an old pig, who died soon after the meeting and is taken place by two other pigs named “Snowball” and “Napoleon”, and enacted Seven Commandments. The days at the beginning are harmonious. But soon there’s a split between two leaders- Snowball is declared enemy of the revolution. What’s worse, leader pigs abuse their powers and gain benefits for themselves, becoming exploiters as human.

It seems ridiculous for animals to have a revolution and for pigs to govern the farm. But when we put it into human’s society, the story makes sense. In fact it reflects on the revolution happened in Soviet in 20th century. Animalism is similar to Socialism, which emphasizes equality a lot, but actually inequality at all. Extreme equality is tend to get into an embarrassing situation like “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.” Napoleon is also the reflection of Soviet’s leader Si Dalin, who was famous for his arbitrariness and toughness in the history and expelled Trotsky (Snowball reflects on Trotsky)。

The revolution of animals is based on being treated unfairly by human. Because their enthusiasm and hatred, they success at the beginning. However, they do not know how to remain a steady regime. The key of keeping a regime is to set restrictions to the power. In other words, to legislate. The responsibility and rights of both government and citizens should be showed obviously in the law.

Another opinion I have learnt from the book is that, we ought to be tough when tracing our goals. And we shouldn’t give up to our desires. In the book, in the end pigs become something very like human who they were against at first. And in reality, if we don’t keep a clear mind to control our desires and remember what kind of people we want to be, we will be lost and become people that we used to hate.

To make a conclusion, George Orwell makes the reveal of politics and humanity in a vivid and simple story, from which readers think much about the history and society.

Animal Farm tells a story that one day the animals overthrow the farmer Mr. Jones, and found their own regime, called “Animal Farm”。 They adopt Seven Commandments of Animalism, of which the most important is “All animals are equal”。 Pigs are the leaders of the operation of the newly start-up farm. Thanks to the right lead of the pigs and selfless and hardworking of all animals, the Animal Farm develops good enough to their demands.

I felt that I was deeply fascinated by it soon after I had read it.

I first read it in a summer. I did not finish it at a single sitting. However, the moment I finished it, near midnight in a sweltering August day, with my body poured with sweat, held my breath to turn the last page over, shut the book and heaved a sigh of relief, I just could not express how I felt. All were over: trouble was over; lives were over; hopes were over. I was shocked how such a small book could contain such a complicated story. Never were wars, diseases and starvation ever nakedly exposed to me like this. The turns in plots were surprising but natural.

It was a tragedy: Just as its name suggested, everything was gone with the wind, including families touch, friends support, sweethearts gaze and youth with vigour. The story reminds us of valuing all we were possessing. A life lasts for a short time and anything in it lasts shorter. We always lose something unconsciously and then feel regretful when we need them later.

Characters in the story were so vivid as if they had been going to jump out of the story, as if they had been existed in the real life at first.

Land is the only thing in the world that amounts to anything, for this the only thing in this world that lasts, and don t you be forgetting it this the only thing worth working for, worth fighting for worth dying for. Said Gerald, an Irish man who loved his soil more than his own life, let us know that life can be born out of land.

But Scarlett, did it ever occur to you that even the most deathless love could wear out? Mine wore out, against Ashley Wilkes and your insane obstinacy that makes you hold on like a bulldog to anything you think about.

Scarlett, I was never one to patient pick up broken fragment glue them together and tell myself that the mended whole was as good as new. What is broken is broken and I d rather remember it as it was at its best than mend it and see the broken places as long as I lived. Said Rett Butler, a man who love Scalett as much as a man can love a woman. Loving her for years before he finally got her, he loved her crazily but did not let her know it for fear of being hurt. But at last he still could not escape from hurts. My dear, I don t give a damn. Look, he did not care about it at all. He was a man who disguised himself so much.

I mustn t bawl; I mustn t beg. I mustn t do anything risk his contempt. He must respect me even even if he doesn t love me.

I ll think of it all tomorrow, at Tara. I can stand it then. Tomorrow, I ll think some way to get him back. After all, tomorrow is another day.

Said Scalett O hara, the most wonderful woman I ve ever seen. She was hard and greedy and unscrupulous, a brave, frightened, bull-headed child. Though she only thought about how to attract man s attention and did not do anything useful before the war, she did surprise me when I read about her doings after the war. At that time, her Tara was just reduced to ashes. Everyone sketched out their hands and asked her for food. She bravely faced the reality and rebuilt Tara with her own hands. What a tough woman, I thought. Though those she loved were all gone, she was still full of hope. When Rett didn t love her anymore and wanted to leave her, she said I mustn t bawl even if he doesn t love me. A woman s dignity could be seen from what she have said and done. That s why I appreciate her.

This novel gave me too much to think about and I can not fully express myself in English. It is true that reading an origin is more vivid than the translated ones. However, my English level limits me to understand the origin well without the translated. But I will work hard in order to understand better.

The novel is my treasure, forever, because I find myself in Scarlett and find the world I live in inside the story.

That s really an excellent novel, with an ending from which you can see hope rising from despair.

Gone with the Wind, an American romantic novel written by Margaret Mitchell is a reflection of the civil war. What impresses us most is the spirit of a rebellious Georgia woman named Scarlett O"Hara and her travails with friends, family and lovers in the midst of the antebellum South, the American Civil War, and the Reconstruction period. It also tells the story of love that blossoms between Scarlett O"Hara and Rhett Butler.

This is really a kind of moving story. Someone said that the most classic scene in the novel was that when Scarlett returned her ruined home, holding the earth in her hand, she promised that no matter to steal or to rob she would never allow her family to starve. However, I would rather to chose this, the most beautiful sentence in the book, tomorrow is another day. What is called love, and what is called hate? Love and hate can like two lines which will never intersect , but a piece of sunshine can melt them. Only when people lose something they come to know how much precious it is. If you shad tears when you miss the sun, you also miss the stars , Tagore said this. You should learn to let something go ,because , tomorrow is another day.

One of my friends had recommended the book Gone with the Wind almost two years ago, but my reading plan was just put off, for the book is really too thick and I even no courage to start. However, this semester I made my mind to read and I found myself was totally lost in the absorbing plots and the attractive characters the author portrayed. I was impressed by the war, the love and the hero Scarlett O Hara, who would also be a charming and successful woman in today s modern society, I think.

Scarlett is a dark-haired, green-eyed Georgia belle who struggles through the hardship of the Civil War and Reconstruction. She exhibits more of her father s hard-headedness than her mother s refined southern manners. Determination defines Scarlett and drives her to achieve everything she desires by any means necessary.

                  1. pursuing her love bravely

Scarlett aims to win Ashley Wilkes, and her failure to do so guides the plot of the novel. Ashley s marriage to Melanie and rejection of Scarlett drive nearly all of Scarlett s important subsequence decisions. Scarlett marries Charles Hamilton to hurt Ashley, stays by Melanie s side through the war because she promise Ashley she will, and loses her true love, Rhett butler, because of her persistent desire to win Ashley. Without hesitation for pursuing her love, she is a little blind to love. However, her courage is inspiring. After all, love always makes people lose sense.

                  2. facing the war fearfully

On the night the Yankees capture Atlanta and set it afire, Scarlett drives the cart all night and day through a dangerous forest full of deserters and soldiers, at last reaching Tara. She arrives to find that her mother, Ellen, is dead; her father, Gerald, has lost his mind; and the Yankee army has looted the plantation, leaving no food or cotton. Scavenging for subsistence desperately, Scarlett vows never to go hungry again. Scarlett takes charge of rebuilding Tara. She murders a Yankee thief and puts out a fire set by a spiteful Yankee soldier. What a great girl she is! Instead of feeling afraid and waiting for others to help her, she bears the burden of rebuilding the Tara by herself. I admire her so much; for I have the same belief---- heaven helps those who help themselves!

                  3. gifted in business

When Scarlett takes advantage of Frank s immobility, going to the store to see the account books, she quickly realizes that frank runs the business badly his friends owe him vast sums of money that he is too embarrassed to collect. Scarlett thinks she could do a much better job in strictly male world of business and begins to think of acquiring a sawmill. Devoting all her time to the mill and turning a sizeable profit by any means necessary, she becomes the only successful businesswoman in Atlanta. In that age, it is really a big challenge for women and she has the confidence and courage to challenge it.

Scarlett s development precisely mirrors the development of the American s south. She changes from spoiled teenage to hard-working widow to wealthy opportunist, reflecting the south s change from leisure society to besieged nation to compromised survivor. As selfish she is, her bravery and strong mind towards love and war really impress me a lot. When there is barrier, even disasters come, we can feel depressed or afraid, but never give up.

It is really a wonderful novel which worth being chewed!

Recently,I have just finished reading a famous novel written by Margaret mitchellGone with the Wind, which is one of the most popular works among American novels. It took the auther about 10 years to finish this great novel, the only novel in her life.

The story happened during the Civil War eve.Scarlett O Hara,a 16-year-old girl, who was living in Tala manor in Georgia, was loving her neighbor Ashley Wilkes. However, after the war have broken out, Ashley Wilkes married his yonger cousin Melanie. Scarlett was so angry that she decided to marry a man she didn t really love---- Charles Hamilton. Not long after that, Charles Hamilton joined the Army and died of illness in the war.So Scarlett had to act as a widow.Afterwards,at a donating dance party,Scarlett is acquainted with a captain named Rhett Butler. Then the flames of war approached Atlanta.Everyone was busy leaving away from the war.Scarlett managed to escape from Atlanta with the help of captain Rhett.

Having come back to Tala manor,Scarlett made up her mind to rally her homeland at any cost when she saw that the former manor had been ruined.Later, her second husband died in the fight, she was a widow again.Durling that time, Rhett had been loving Scarlett sincerely and warmly.Seeing that Rhett could help her rally the manor,Scarlett married him.Although Rhett had similar characteristic attracting her,Scarlett still loved Ashley.Later, their only daughter died accidently,Rhett left Scarlett sorrowly. And then Scarlett realized that Rhett was the only one who could fall in love with her.

The novel takes the US Civil War as the background. It takes Scarlett s individual activity as the thread. The book show us a tragic love story .A couple who could have a perfect future, but finnally go in opposite direction. As a matter of fact, their charactristics have decided their tragic result inevitably. We feel sorry about the end because we are looking forward to a perfect end, just like Scarlett and Rhett. In fact, ferfect is always a excessive damand.

I affirm Rhett. He brings excitement to Scarlett s life and encourages her impulse to change and succeed.Like Scarlett,he goes after what he wants and refuses to take no for an answer. He is humorous, intelligent and cynical with a hint of treason. He is really a respectable man.I think he finnally left because of love .Otherwise,he couldn t have gone without hesitation.

Ashley Wilkes is the foil to Rhett s dark, realistic opportunism. If there was no Civil War,he is surely a nobility of grace and charm. But history cannot be changed. He bocame a victim of the war.His era was gone with the defeat of the war.At the same time,we cannot deny the fact that he had a chear understanding about reality, which just contribute to his tragedy.

In this book, what I appreciate most is not Melanie skindness or Rheet s dedication and patience, but Scarlett s courage to throw her long-standing morality and tradition whe faced with diffiiculties. At the beginning of the war,she didn t care about this.In her world are endless dinner parties and dance parties. In her body are her father s brave Irish blood and her mother s noble French pure blood. She had a vast farm as her home. She had hundreds of slaves. This is Scarlett.,a member of noblity, proud and different. However, the war changed everything. Her mother died of illness. Her father become silent and the farm was nearly deserted.Even food became a big problem. All the pressure was put on Scarlett s shoulder. She must feed a family of 9 people in it.What a big difference of level. If all this happened to someone else,he or she may choose to escape. On the contrary,Scarlett choose to face the change of life bravely. How can we not admire her courage of to change herself.Life is like a mountain. The road can t be completely smooth. When we fall down from the peak,we may get hert ,we may get disappointed,we may feel despair. But if you want to survive, you must stand up to face it.

It is obvious that 《Gone with the wind》 is really a good book, even if a long time has passed away,it is still suitable for today s society. It is of great importance to change ourselves, change our value even our thoughts when our life chages.

On the other hand,I think there is no real perfect in the world.Everybody has his shortcomings. It is necessary for us to learn to forgive others faults. If we keep good-tempered,Ibelieve there will be more comedy and less tragedy.

But poems about the moon can still give us some yearning.

the first time that i touched the bible is in peter’s home.i

was introduced to an english corner by a good friend.and

before that, i have no idea about the bible

                  and nazarenes.until

we almost went into peter’s home, she told me that peter is a nazarene and he taught us english lover something about the bible.i

wanted to have a try because of my curiosity.

when all of us got into his house, we all felt enthusiastic about each other.peter

prepared dinner for us, and he said to us that all nazarenes are the family of each other,

and all nazarenes are equal, they help with each other, they share things with each other, and they prepare food for each other for free.then,

we new students received a book

the new testament holly bible from peter; he said that we can see this bible as a story about jesus or a foreigner book to improve our english and know about some european culture.

we learned some soft songs about the bible, smiles on everyone’s face.after

that, we started our study of bible.

bible was monly described as “a greatest book 。

though the bible was finished before two thousand years ago, it still has a deep effect among people in nowadays, including all kinds of people, such as leaders, sportsmen or scientists

                  and so on.several

of them read and studied the bible.to

open the bible is always beneficial.but,

it also has some ideas that i can not accept it pletely for that i am an atheist.i

                  do not

hold that there is someone who has the ability to survive all the people in the world.i

had an argue with peter in this question and i also ask some other friends’ opinion about matter, they all

considered that jesus is the most perfect existence in the world, and he rescued our world, so that we can live at present.the

nazarenes see jesus as a goddess in chinese mythology, however,

in fact, we chinese people only serve the great woman as a dream, and we do not fall into the mixture of reality and dummy.in

the bible, they think all the people have sins, and the jesus was

                  punished because of our sins.whoever

wants to go to the heaven instead of hails must go through him, this is the only way.jesus

is the only cross to the rebirth places.all

                  nazarenes believe

that jesus is the only one who is perfect pletely and he has no sins, so, he is the only person who has the qualification to survive others and undertake their sins.jesus

                  rescued us, he died.

these nazarenes regard jesus as god from above, just as the bible saying, no shortings.they

obey jesus and believe in jesus totally.whoever

believes in jesus has an eternal life.as

                  what

we old emperors did in the past, their orders must be carried out follow emperors’ opinions.that

is to say, most of nazarenes live without their own thoughts and understandings; they live under

others’ favors, which is quite foolish and lamentable.

at the end of this book, i knew that if i do something good for others, i may get encourage and rewards from that god, otherwise, the god may punish me.

just as the old saying goes, “what is ing not rewarded, not the time.this

are the profound consideration that i get from the bible,

let religious faith bee a way of fort instead of an edged tool used by mon people.i believe our world will be better than before.
