????????漢語中，我們常常會說，“狼心狗肺”“雞犬不寧”“狐朋狗友”，“狗掀門簾全靠嘴”“狗窩里落不下剩饅頭”等。可見在中國文化中可謂是貶義更濃一些。而在西方文化中，狗是家中的寵物，可以享受很高的待遇，是人類的好朋友，忠誠而友好，也是人們寄托感情的對象，所以英語中狗則常作褒義多一點。如，形容一個人很幸運時會說，“You are a lucky dog.”又如，“Love me，love my dog.”（愛屋及烏），“Every dog has its day.”（人人皆有得意時。），“top dog”（重要的人），a gay dog（快樂之人），work like a dog（拼命工作）。
